Lyocell products are biodegradable materials prepared by Lyocell process using lignocellulose as raw material and NMMO as solvent.

Lignocellulosic products fall under the category of Bioplastics, which were included in the EU's "100 Radical Innovation Breakthroughs forFuture" breakthroughs in 2021. At present, there are three methods to prepare cellulose products from lignocellulosic dissolution and remolding, which are viscose method, copper ammonia method and Lessel method. Among them, the viscose method is mainly used to prepare viscose fiber and cellophane (commercial name is "cellophane"), and the copper ammonia method is mainly used to prepare underwear fiber, dialysis membrane and separation membrane, both of which have different degrees of process defects and pollution problems. In contrast, the Lessel process is the most economical and environmentally friendly.

Lyocell process means that lignocellulose is directly dissolved in NMMO aqueous solution without chemical reaction to make cellulose NMMO solution (spinning solution), and Lyocell regenerated cellulose fiber is obtained by spinning to get Lyocell fiber products. Similarly, the cellulose NMMO solution can also be used to prepare other cellulose products through different molding processes, such as Lyocell film, Lyocell wood pulp cotton, Lyocell sponge, etc. The most commercially successful Lyocell product is Lyocell fiber. Lycel products have the attributes of low carbon green safety. Its raw material lignocellulose is the most abundant biomass resource on the earth, the NMMO solvent used is non-toxic and recyclable, the product is degradable and the degradation products will not cause harm to the environment and human body.
